I believe, it is impossible to change the code via a PHP function (html_format and signature_format). I think, we need a JavaScript solution. The reason is the caching option of the forum. It will be impossible to overwrite the global-forum settings by the user-defined one once the link is hard-coded.

What do you think about adding the variable to a script like the js_defaults?

Will this file get generated for each request (potentially different for each visitor/user)? If yes, then this is the way to go.
