In Opera sends me to an error page "this page isn't working" HTTP ERROR 500

From which version did you start the update? Unsubscribing was introduced with 2.4.14.

Even though it does seem to stop the subscription emails. I thought it would go to a confirmation page?

Yes, that's the way it should work.
