IE 11 back button reloads same page (Bugs)

by Magma, Sunday, February 17, 2019, 18:58 (1892 days ago)

I know it's an older browser but thought I would tell you anyway, it's just something I noticed. IE 11.0.96 pressing the back button sometimes reloads the same page. Happens on my forum and MLF. This is what I did to recreate it

As a logged in user
any category, click on page 3
then click on a thread
click back to forum index
click page 5
click the back button in IE
Page 5 reloads again instead of going to page 3

I have not noticed the same in Opera

Hello

I know it's an older browser

... and look for an newer on

One cannot delete/uninstall IE11 when one uses Windows. All one can do is not using IE and to be clear, I see no reason to use it. Beside that, I had to state that I cannot reproduce the problem.

I tested your scenario step by step at work, where I have access to a IE11. I can not reproduce the problem because I get redirected from page 5 back to page 3.

I can do it every time.

https://mylittleforum.net/forum/

1. choose page 3 from drop down
2. click thread Vorschlag zu Kategorien
3. click "back to the forum index"
4. choose page 5 from drop down
5. click IE back button, page 5 reloads

Ok, now I can confirm the described behaviour. I did not click the link "back to forum index" in my first test but used the browsers back button. By the way, with a second click onto the back button (step 6) the browser loads page three.

I can reproduce a similar behaviour in Firefox 65.

1. choose page 3 from drop down
2. click thread "Vorschlag zu Kategorien"
3. click "back to the forum index"
4. choose page 5 from drop down
5. click firefox's back button, loads page 3
6. click thread "Vorschlag zu Kategorien" again
7. click "back to the forum index" again
8. click firefox's back button, page 5 reloads

It seem to depend on the fact, that the drop down loads the pages with a URL parameter (i.e. page=3) but with the click on the posting link the URL get lost of the parameter. The information about the selected page now only exist in the server session. After clicking the browsers back button the information about the selected page differs from the reality. IMHO this is not simple to solve completely because there have to be several edge cases taken into consideration.

Remove this browser. There are many other good ones.
