I noticed this forum has an SSL certificate, I'd like to add one to my own my little forum, forum...

When I add the certificate, all the HTML breaks and all the pages go into plain text which renders the website unusable..

Am I supposed to do anything in addition to adding the certificate to make the site compatible?

Enter the settings page and add the correct protocol to the setting forum address (in the advanced settings: forum_address). Replace http://example.com/forum/ with https://example.com/forum/ [1] and reload the page. If the layout is as normal you are done. Otherwise please report this fact here.
