category login

Reply from Auge, 17.10.2010, 20:36:

Hallo

» Is it possible to have registered users login to only one category and not
» see the rest?

There is only one way: make only one category accessible to (registered) visitors and every other category only accessible for admins and moderators.

Embed YouTube

Reply from paullecorde, 18.01.2009, 20:19:

I did it!!!

You have to add in the "some new tags" section from my previous post and then
instead of the bottom section, you use the follow...

$string = preg_replace(
"#[youtube](.*)youtube.com/watch?v=(.*)
[/youtube]#is", "

", $string);

(note: I had to break up the code to avoid the word length rule for this forum but you need to press delete at the end of each line to make the code one long "phrase" from the $ to the ; before you paste it into the file.)

I pasted the code just below the bottom of the function bbcode($string)
{
global $settings;
section in the function.php file.

The bbcode that you use is the url link between [youtube][/youtube]
[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cWje-8b-ug[/youtube]

I hope this helps others with this issue.

Thanks.

bb table code

Post by paullecorde, 18.01.2009, 19:23:

My forum is related to language study and I find that I need to be able to post tables into my forum entries. Html codes
,
,
,etc. don't work and neither do [table][/table] codes. How can I change the functions.php code to allow tables?

Thank you for any suggestions on this issue.

Embed YouTube

Reply from paullecorde, 18.01.2009, 19:20:

I would still like to be able to embed youtube videos. Has anyone had any luck with doing this...

I tried the following and it did not work. Can someone see a reason why this isn't working and tell us how to correct the error or suggest a better way to embed flash video?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I hope I gave you an idea.

*btw*: I did not explicitly logged me in into the english forum, nevertheless I am (logged in at the german forum before). Two forums with one users administration. ;-)

force links to open new window

Reply from Auge, 25.10.2008, 14:42:

Hello

» I would prefer that links in entries open a new window or tab instead of
» taking visitors away from my forum. I know that in html you would
» accomplish this by adding target=TOP after the URL in the a href tag.
» This doesn't work with the bulletin board code . Does
» anyone have ideas on how to force the links to open in new windows?

The Search is your friend. This was discussed and explained in some threads.

*btw* If you do so, you have to change the XHTML-version by passing the doctype definition from XHTML 1.0 strict to XHTML 1.0 transitional in the XHTML-template. There are instructions at many places in the net, use your favorite search engine to find.

Is anyone still using version 1?

Reply from Alfie, 25.10.2008, 13:26:

Hi Paul!

» I see that there is a new version of my little forum.

Not finished yet (Release Candidate #7 as of today).

» Is anyone else staying with version 1?

I think right no the majority of admins... ;-)

» Are there any known security issues with version 1?

I don't think so; but if you keep the forum open (i.e., posting for not registered users allowed), you will have to face a lot more spam. Spam protection is definitely better implemented in v2.x.
On the other hand, with only the simple math-captcha for the registration- and contact-forms I haven't seen any spam comming through in the last 2 years in my forum (running 1.7.7).
