Modifying MLF (to test ideas) (Technics)

by akakima, Tuesday, July 18, 2017, 14:58 (92 days ago)

Hi !

What the proper way to modify MLF ?

I means, must we modify the files int the /template directory ?
And then compile them before putting them into /template_c directory ?

Is there a recommended way to do that ?

Thanks

Hello

What the proper way to modify MLF ?

You want change the HTML and CSS to give your forum another look or mobile-device-awareness?

I means, must we modify the files int the /template directory ?

Please don't. Copy the default theme in /template/default/ to a new directory in /template/, give it a proper name (it's used in the settings pages) and apply your changes to the copied, new theme. During development it's recommended to set the new theme as your personal template in your user-settings-page and not in the settings page of the admin-area.

And then compile them before putting them into /template_c directory ?

No, there is nothing to compile. If you ensure to load the latest changes from the server, delete the content of /template_c (not the directory itself) before loading the changes in your browser.

Thanks

All good info to know.

I am working with an XAMPP local installation.
When you talk about the server, it would be my own computer.

Also, the part i am interested to test is the flash embedding code.
